About The Event
Performer. Singer. Multi-Instrumentalist. Musical doula. Two-Spirit artivist.
It is true that Melissa Ivey’s musical evolution has seen many incarnations in this same lifetime. She has been born and died unto herself several times throughout her career, which has spanned more than 20 years, only to rise once more as a new expression of creative intention.
Driven by the impulse to share her art with others, Melissa Ivey sold 5,000 copies of her self-released album "From The Inside Out" from the back of her VW bus back in the early 2000s. This was the very beginning of a prolific life and career that has unfolded in some remarkable and sometimes surprising ways. Ivey’s willingness to give herself over to the process of innovation led to television credits for her music featured on the Television E! Entertainment network and Comcast's two-time Emmy Award-winning show "The Stage-Colorado”.
“My Mel spirit is obviously restless. I’m fun, tough, a warrior, a caregiver, a discoverer, a server of the underserved, and some have called me a creative genius. My passions include helping others through difficult times, joyous occasions and everything in between.” - Melissa Ivey
Combine performance art, human rights activism, and overall love for the birth of new life, and you have Melissa Ivey, ‘The Musical Doula'. Now Ivey not only assists in bringing forth new human life into the planet, but she also consistently conceives of new life in the form of the songs she births into musical existence.
So what makes an artist like Melissa Ivey endure? One might attribute it to this indefatigable thirst to share her life and tell stories through song. Or perhaps it is Melissa's personal evolution through the world of music that keeps her fresh and relevant. Still, maybe it's her ability to thrive through adversity and give voice to the voiceless.
“I’m constantly surrounding myself with things I don’t know how to play because it keeps that childlike wonderment. I don’t bring a formula. I let the muse in.”
Reminiscent of Janis Joplin and pop-rock icons Joan Jett and Pat Benetar, Melissa Ivey takes you on a musical journey through blues, rock, punk, folk, and her AWARD-WINNING singer-songwriter style. Throughout her career trajectory, Melissa taught herself how to play acoustic guitar, which lent itself to learning pianos/keys, drums, and bass guitar, just to name a few. As of 2021, Melissa Ivey has played over 150+ live shows from New York to California as both a headliner as well as a session musician.
"Speed of Life" is Ivey's third studio recording, currently in production. This soul-driven blues-rock project promises more of what we have come to love about Melissa Ivey Music: catchy hooks, hard hittin' bass grooves, beautiful rhythm guitar riffs in perfect harmony with distorted electric bliss - accompanied by her sometimes sweet and sometimes gritty vocals. Co-produced with award-winning singer/songwriter Xolie Morra, "Speed of Life" is destined for the charts.
